Professional: The White Plains ‘Youth Bureau’ health and wellness magazine. It contained articles to promote healthy habits and exercises. I had worked on the templates, the typography, the design and putting everything together.
Produced a polished, youth-focused wellness magazine for the White Plains Youth Bureau. Responsibilities and highlights:
Editorial concept and structure: Developed a clear, scalable magazine framework prioritizing accessibility and engagement for teens and families. Organized content into themed sections (Nutrition, Fitness, Mental Health, Community Resources) to guide readers through progressive health topics.
Templates and layout systems: Designed reusable page templates for feature articles, quick tips, how-to guides, and resource listings. Created modular grids and master pages to ensure visual consistency across issues while allowing editorial flexibility.
Typography and hierarchy: Selected a clean, legible type system optimized for print and digital distribution. Established a clear typographic hierarchy—headline, subhead, deck, body copy, captions—to improve scanability and comprehension for young readers.
Visual design and brand alignment: Defined a modern, approachable aesthetic with energetic color accents, friendly iconography, and inclusive photography choices. Ensured all visual elements reinforced the Youth Bureau’s professional yet accessible tone.
Content integration and editorial flow: Collaborated with writers and health professionals to sequence articles logically, balancing longer features with quick, actionable sidebars and exercise step-by-steps. Implemented pull quotes, callouts, and checklist elements to increase retention and motivate behavior change.
Accessibility and readability: Applied contrast, font sizing, and spacing best practices to support readers with varying levels of literacy and visual needs. Prepared export settings for high-quality print and optimized PDFs for screen reading.
